in the middle of the night

You get to the point
to where you stub your toe
against the dining room table
and it hurts like hell
but when you look down
and wiggle your toe
nothing's bleeding
or permanently broken
and you keep walking
'cause you'd rather
just get your glass of water
and go back to sleep
instead of wasting time
bitching about the unbroken toe
'cause sleep is more important
than some trivial hurt
that goes away,
come morning.
